The hybrid method of combining N-body simulations with semi-analytical formulae was first published briefly in the conference proceedings RQP93 and as a full article in RQPR97. Cosmologists at Durham, Oxford, Cambridge, IAP, ESO and the Milano Sep 1992 Cosmology meeting were aware (seminars, informal discussion) of the method and early results in Sep/Oct 1992. The first merger history tree calculated from an N-body simulation was published in Fig 2 of RQP93 and in RY93. The first merger history tree from a semi-analytical halo model was drawn schematically as Fig 6 in LC93.
