Hi Joachim,
What I mentioned to you in Marseille has become reality: I'm now a
faculty member at the Toruń Centre for Astronomy at the Nicholas Copernicus
University, Toruń, Poland! :) Right now I'm just settling in,
getting to know the students and faculty, and seeing how we can go
about building up our observational cosmology group.

Have a look at:

http://www.astro.uni.torun.pl/sympa/

to get some idea of where we're at so far.

As you're probably about the geographically closest observational
cosmologist to us (apart from CAMK Warsaw people), you are definitely
very welcome to come over to visit, give a seminar, etc. I'm not sure
what concrete projects we could come up with, or whether this would
overload students with too many new ideas, but I think it would be
motivating to see that gravitational lensing really does have
*observational* support beyond the faintest doubt (except for the late
Hoyle, and Burbidge, Narlikar ;) ?), while topological lensing is
still in the exploratory stage.

And regarding students, if a student happens to find a grav lensing
project more promising than the projects I'm interested in, I don't
mind - students are people, not property - and you can only do good
research when you're really interested in something. And there could
be Potsdam students who prefer to do cosmic standard ruler or
topological lensing projects... ;)

Anyway, if you feel like visiting, just send an email to our publicly
archived list:

cosmo-spotka@astro.uni.torun.pl

introducing yourself and say you'd like to visit. We haven't really
thought through how to welcome visiting cosmologists yet, but there
are lots of good pubs in Toruń, and I'm sure we can develop an
appropriate visitor culture...

Schuss (sp?)
Boud

PS (to Toruń people): Joachim does gravitational lensing
(observational).
